With our head offices in Newquay, Cornwall, we’re a bit spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful places to spend time as a family. From pottering about in the sand making castles and exploring local parks, to toddler-thrilling train rides and wonderful wildlife, we asked our team to tell us all about their favourite kids’ activities in Cornwall….
“Heartlands is superb for all ages – there is an amazing outdoor play area, which has something for little children and older, more agile kids. There is a paved stream, which kids love to splash in, plus some beautiful gardens. There is also an educational element by way of the Visitor Centre around the Old Engine House, so children can learn about mining in Cornwall.”
Hannah Gower, International Sales Team Leader
“I have 2 children – aged 5 and 18 months and we love to visit Tehidy Country Park as it’s great for all ages. My youngest loves looking out for the squirrels and we always take a few nuts with us to feed them. The older one loves to be able to cycle around the lake and through the woods, jumping off the logs. Then we all relax in the cafe afterwards with an ice-cream or a slice of cake!”
Jo Major, Head of Compliance
“My children love the beach, especially in summer. We do so many activities there – swimming, playing around in a little inflatable boat (they love this), building sandcastles, barbequing and playing ball games. I also feel really good about it, as it is a healthy, wholesome and free activity.”
David Emblin, Senior Product Designer
“Paradise Park in Hayle provides lots of variety for children – birds and bird shows, a variety of interesting animal and farm yard animals (which is great for non-rainy weather). They also have a great indoor soft play area with ball pond and slides. I have lots of wonderful memories of feeding the penguins, stroking Buttercup the donkey and racing down the slides in the straw sacks.”
“Lappa Valley is a steam themed amusement bonanza! Not far from Newquay, but far enough to be away from the crowds. There are big, medium and small trains that join up the mini attractions. There’s a lake with boats, a big play park, mini golf and an outdoor maze – too many amazing things for a toddler to choo-choose from, but enough to make it a proper day out. Only problem is now my son wants to travel everywhere by train!”
Stewart Cole, Product Designer
“There are so many fantastic beaches in Cornwall and it is great to choose those with plenty of rock pools for younger children who are not yet happy going into the sea. Our favourites are Harlyn Bay, Treyarnon Bay and Constantine Bay. I remember the girls spending hours pretending to be mermaids in the rock pools on the beach at Harlyn.”
Lucy Wynn-Jones, Head of Licensing
“Any rock pool, or for a more expensive treat hot chocolate at Bodhi’s on South Fistral after a swim in the sea! Don’t forget the flake and the marshmallows! Kids love the lack of rules and boundaries (other than safety) and hunter gatherer mode kicks in for my boys.”
